I've installed the ASCOM paltform and the Celestron drivers and it works fine now. Now the only enhancement still needed to allow me to keep cosy in my observatory's warm room is an auto focuser for my C10-N and C11-SCT. ASCOM Platform 6.4SP1. Platform 6.4SP1 Help (online) Required for all drivers (see notes for Windows 7 and Windows XP!).This will install the Platform on a new PC. Has anyone else seen this issue or know of another solution to this particular problem? Cskozlowski, I don’t have a Celestron mount, but seeing that nobody else has responded yet I’ll throw out some ideas. Connection dropping issues are sometimes caused by faulty cables or connections.
That way you are at the mount when doing a slew and can easily see to abort the slew if a cable snags or you are going to hit something. Of course, once aligned, you can also do slews with most planetarium programs.

All data in the hand controller is correct based on my current viewing location followed by a thorough 2 star alignment procedure. I'm running all this on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS. I then click on an object inStarryNight, say Arcturus. I then use the 'Slew To' command to move the scope to the selected object. The scope moves to the object. But then all on its own it will slew off the target by about 2 degrees.

I'm trying to set up ASCOM control for my Celestron AVX mount so I can control the mount from various software packages (e.g. Stellarium, PHD2, Astrotortilla). I've installed StellariumScope as well as the ASCOM and Celestron drivers. I think I've configured StellariumScope correctly as I'm getting the scope position shown in Stellarium and the small Celestron Driver Hand Controller window appears when I click on 'Connect'. I'm also getting Astrotortilla to talk to BackyardEOS OK so I think I'm almost there. However I've hit 2 issues which I'm unable to resolve: (1) When I click on the N,S,E,W buttons on the Celestron Driver Hand Controller window it slews the scope (at the appropriate selected speed) but I can't find a way of stopping the movement ie.
If you had connected to the Sky X and unpark that would have worked and mount would not have been lost. So tonight I left the Sky X connected to see if ACP parks as the Sky X knows it IF I had connected ACP to use the Sky control position, I am sure that would have worked. Tonight, ACP is connected using the ASCOM driver for celestron so it may park in that psotion and not what sky x uses, but this is a good test Find lost scope won't work because the celestron driver will move move the scope when not aligned, ACP log shows this as well. I do wonder if you could just sync on any star and then use find lost scope, maybe another good test if mount gets mis aligned again. Anyway your plan is running.

If you are unsure of which COM port you are using, open up your device manager and look for the 'Ports (COM & LPT), click the arrow on the left of that and it will tell you what port you are using.

This will help with calibration and it will let MG know the current declination. AstroGene and TOGA • If AstroGene or TOGA are connected, they will appear as a COM port such as AGCOM7 or TOGA7, meaning AstroGene at COM port 7, or TOGA at COM port 7. Just select the appropriate COM port and you should be connected.• As with GPUSB, you can still connect to the mount via ASCOM while autoguiding with AstroGene or TOGA, so that MG knows the current declination. LPT • LPT is identical to GPUSB except you must provide a GPINT device or equivalent that allows a direct connection from your LPT port to the ST4 input of the mount. You must also select a port number matching your LPT port – which can be found in Device Manager/Ports on your computer.
With GPUSB, AstroGene, QHY, TOGA or LPT, all MetaGuide can do is move the mount N/E/W/S at autoguide rates. With ASCOM, MetaGuide can query the declination, right ascension, and other properties of the mount such as the actual autoguide rates. This is particularly helpful during calibration. Nonetheless, autoguiding should work well using any of these connections – the user just needs to enter the Declination and exact autoguide rates if calibrating without ASCOM.
When I'm trying to configure I cannot seem to find my scope listed anywhere. After hearing a few comments online regarding drivers I went back to ASCOM where I was able to download and install both Orion and Celestron drivers. The problem now is neither work for my particular telescope. The Orion driver is for the Intelliscope and not the Goto series. And the Celestron driver seems to only support equatorial mounts from what I see. I've contacted Orion technical support but all they could do for me was submit my claim for further review. All I think I need at this point is a proper driver that supports my particular Goto scope so I can access it during the configuring stage and then connect.

The LX200 drivers are not full featured. Many applications require manual settings and work arounds to get them to work with the classic generic drivers. Even the Max drivers, which allow certain features, then break others. The only way to get this all working as it should is with real LX850 ASCOM drivers. I've spoken with a few people who in the past have written ASCOM drivers for hardware and they all agree that it should not take very long at all to get them done.

Many commercially available planetarium softwares can be used to control SynScan. AZ Version 3.00 and later is compatible with Celestron 5i/8i and NexStar GPS command protocol. Make sure that the telescope has been aligned. Connect the RS-232 cable to the RJ-12 connector on the hand control and to the COM-port of your computer (Fig.o). In the planetarium software of your choice, choose 'Sky-Watcher Mount, Celestron NexStar 5i/8i' or 'Celestron NexStar 8/9/11' in the driver setup menu and follow the instructions provided by your program to establish the connection to the telescope.
